One of a Kind!

You'll find a wealth of upscale homes clustered together on half acre lots in urban subdivisions, but it's very unlikely  that you'll find another home like this one. The rolling 3+ acre site in the center of the small town of Louisburg creates an unbelievable ambiance for a very special home. You can drive by every day for years and have no idea what awaits you as you enter the house and grounds for the first time.

Front View

Fourteen years ago our family decided to move from a subdivision in the city to a home in a small town or rural setting. We toured most every community within driving distance of the University of Missouri-Kansas City where I was working. Finally, we discovered Louisburg.

louisburg

We wanted a home in Louisburg that was a perfect fit for our family.

The serene 3-acre setting along Rabbit Creek in the center of Louisburg was more perfect than we could have ever imagined. The view from 3rd Street was the magnet that first drew us to this home but we quickly discovered that it is impossible to fully appreciate its unique features from a distance.

No Place Like Home

Walk along the creek, climb the cliff, watch the fox or the deer, listen to the cardinals, the barn swallows, and the finch or catch a glimpse of the bobcats or possum or simply relax by the pool and you will begin to understand why we say this house is one of a kind.

Ask your agent to arrange a visit. If you don't have an agent, call 913-709-4423 or send an email to JohnCleek@JohnCleekRealtor.com and we'll arrange for you to see it at a time convenient for you.

Architecture, craftmanship, artistic decor and furnishings create a sense that when you enter this home you have just walked into the pages of Better Homes and Gardens or House Beautiful. But make no mistake, first and foremost, this is a home and no matter where you are, inside or out, if you are in or near this house you will feel at home.  Let us know you're coming and we'll have the coffee ready.

The side entry 2 car attached garage opens into the kitchen for convenient access with groceries.

Parlor

For family or social gatherings the spacious entry, the formal dining room, the parlor, the hearth room, the casual dining area, and the kitchen are so well integrated that no one need ever feel left out. The architects have achieved a high degree of synergy. The whole is truly greater than the sum of the parts.

But there is more…

Solid wood trim, crown moldings, wall and ceiling panels – oak in most areas, cherry in the master suite -- blend with the solid oak flooring, Anderson windows and doors and numerous leaded and stained glass windows and accents. You will also marvel at the soaring 18 ft ceiling in the parlor and the 12 ft ceilings in the hearth and casual dining rooms.

The Upper Level

In addition the large sitting room overlooking the parlor and hearth rooms is both a gathering place and an entertainment center. The bedroom level has its own HVAC system for efficiency and comfort.

The Lower Level

The lower level is where you will find the family room, game room, and wet bar and the fifth bedroom or office. The paneling on the west wall of the game room shown below is antique barn wood from an old Miami County barn. The same wood was used for the facing of the wetbar along with an antique brass footrail from a 150 year old home in Oklahoma City.

Currently configured as an office, this 12 x 20 paneled room was designed to serve either as an office or a fifth bedroom. The ceiling has bead board paneling. The walk-in closet or store room is 5 x 12. The plumbing connections are in place for a full bath connected to this bedroom. There is a 2-sided wood-burning fireplace between the family room and the bedroom/office. Currently we are using the area where the bath would be as a studio/workshop for stained glass and antique repair/refinishing. With only minor modification, the lower level could be converted to a full second living area.

The Outdoor Living Area

With its nearly 5,000 square feet of finished living spaces, it may seem that all a family would ever need to be happy and comfortable has been provided. True as that may be, there is still more that makes this home One of A Kind.

Some of our family's most unforgettable memories will be times when we gathered around the pool and shared the fun and excitement of the outdoors that complement the indoors so beautifully. The time around (and in) the pool were special, for sure. Just as special were times when we explored together or singly. Rabbit Creek has been a part of the history and heritage of Louisburg for nearly a century and a half yet it is ever changing. Each time we walk along, or in, the creek we are enraptured by the beauty and serenity it engenders.

Access to the intensively landscaped gardens and pool area is provided by French Doors that open from the master suite onto a covered porch shaded by a large walnut tree; sliding doors from the casual dining room that open onto a large wrap-around deck that also connects to the doorway into the brick floored laundry/mud room; and the walkout from the lower level.

The pool is complimented by an expansive flagstone apron, served by a pump house that is a reminder of the local landmark, Little Round House, and enclosed with a vinyl picket fence.

We shape our spaces and then our spaces shape us. Consistent with that philosophy the outdoor living areas are integral to the ambiance of this home. No detail is too small to be important. A special flower here, a fish pond there, and a water feature in just the right spot are details that make the overall impact so special.

Joule

Rabbit Creek is a part of the homestead but it belongs to everyone who has ever sat and day dreamed on its banks or wandered aimlessly along its path. It is the creek and the cliffside on the south that make this a safe haven for deer, fox, raccoon, bobcat, muskrat, and other species.

It's virtually impossible to improve on Mother Nature.

In the years since we discovered this home, our children have graduated from high school and college, moved to their own homes and started their own lives. This Empty Nest is too big for two people and we have begun our search for a home that matches our present family and lifestyle. We want a special family to move in and experience what we have experienced in this fantastic home.
